Kokrajhar, Jan. 17: A five-day programme for youths preparing for different competitive examinations began at Udalguri today.
Commissioner and secretary, home, government of Assam, Jishnu Baruah was the chief guest at the programme, which was organised by the All Bodo Students Union (Absu).
The Kargil Gunners of the army's Red Horns division based at Udalguri also helped organise the programme.
Baruah, an IAS officer, gave the participants tips on how to prepare for civil service examinations.
He encouraged the youths and also spoke on confidence-building measures. Baruah gave a PowerPoint presentation to the aspiring youths on civil service.
He appreciated the initiative of the student union and said the programme would help aspiring youths in the long run. Experts, senior bureaucrats and retired IAS, IFS, IPS officers, will be attending the programme in the next few days.
Absu president Promode Boro said the programme was organised to motivate and encourage aspirants of civil service examination.
"There are many potential youths in this part of the country, who, with little help and guidance can achieve great results in competitive examinations. The programme is part of mission quality education carried by the student union," the Absu president said. "We are committed to building human resources in the region."
He said the union would be sending five students from the Bodo belt to Delhi for coaching from this year.
He expressed the hope that the students aiming to enter civil service would gain from the programme.
