The Madras High Court had issued the ban on TikTok following Supreme Court's order on April 3. Following which ByteDance, the developer of TikTok, challenged the Madras High Court's ex-parte order in the Supreme Court. While the top court initially refused to intervene, on April 22, it later asked the Madras High Court to decide on TikTok's plea for interim relief by April 24.
An interim order on the ban of TikTok was passed in the country. The bench that heard the matter, warned if any controversial video violating its condition was found on the platform, it would be considered a contempt of court. It also expressed concerns about the crimes against children. The court has also observed that children are being exposed to inappropriate content including pornography through TikTok.
