Three self-propelled trains to run on Kalka-Shimla route from November 16 to January 15

Children below five years of age are exempted from buying tickets but they will not be provided seats.

The Northen Railway has decided to run three self-propelled trains — Jharoka, RA-100 and Rail Motor Car — on the concept of ‘chartering of individual seat’ on Unesco World Heritage Kalka-Shimla railway track from November 16 to January 15, 2020.

This move is meant to promote tourism on this particular railway track. Until now, Jharoka, RA-100 and Rail Motor Car services are available on the basis of group booking but for the next two months, individual passengers can also book their seats in these trains independently. Tourists can purchase tickets from Kalka railway station or Shimla railway station. The tickets will not be refundable.

Rs 2,200 is the cost of one ticket of RA-100, which has carrying capacity of eight passengers. One ticket of Rail Motor Car, which has capacity of 12 passengers, is priced at Rs 1,600. Rs 3,500 is the cost of one ticket in Jharoka, in which eight passengers can travel. Children below five years of age are exempted from buying tickets but they will not be provided seats.

Hari Mohan, senior DCM, Ambala railway division, said, “Tickets once purchased are not refundable but if proposed six number of passengers in case of RA-100, Jharoka and eight number of passengers in case of Rail Motor Car are not available then railway shall be unable to operate train. In such a condition full fare will be refundable from ticket counters at Kalka and Shimla railway stations respectively.”
