Three inmates escape from remand home in Palamu

Medininagar (Palamu), July 21 (PTI) Three inmates, accused of rape and murder, escaped from a remand home at Medininagar in Palamu district, a top police officer said on Wednesday.

The inmates sneaked out of the juvenile home through a drain in the premises Tuesday night, the police officer said. Superintendent of Police, Palamu, Chandan Kumar Sinha told PTI that the incident came to light during a headcount of the inmates this morning.

A special investigation team has been constituted to investigate the incident, he said.

The three had escaped from the remand home even in the past.

Security arrangement was being tightened to check recurrence of such incidents.

The remand home has 60 inmates, he said.

A police team has been constituted to nab them and is keeping a vigil on areas like bus stands and railway stations.

Besides, the police was also keeping an eye in the villages of the accused after their guardians were informed about the incident, Sinha said.

Meanwhile, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Rajesh Kumar Sah said the inmates broke the iron-rods of the window and made their way out through the drain.

The SDM said the responsibility of security and maintenance of the remand home rests with the Social Welfare department. PTI CORR NAM
