(Eds: Adds inputs, recasts intro) Hyderabad, Apr 18 (PTI) The daily COVID-19 cases in Telangana has breached the 5,000-mark by registering 5,093 fresh infections, the highest ever so far, pushing the aggregate to over 3.51 lakh.
The toll climbed to 1,824 with 15 more fatalities.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) accounted for the most number of cases with 743, followed by Medchal Malkajgiri (488) and Rangareddy (407), a government bulletin said on Sunday providing details as of 8 PM on April 17.
Telangana Health Minister Etela Rajender said the state government requested drug manufacturers such as Dr Reddys laboratories and Hetero to step up production of Remdesivir to meet the present requirements.
'Remdesivir manufacturing has also come down (in recent times). We requested Remdesivir manufacturers to boost production andfrom tomorrow onwards the production level is likely to be increased,' Rajender told reporters.
Maintaining that there is no shortage of medical Oxygen in the state, the minister said as per the current situation 260 tonnes of the life supporting gas is required.
He, however, said the demand may go upto 300 tonnes if the situation persists.
There are over 60,000 hospital bedsin the state even as 99.5 per cent patients are recovering and going home, he added.
He also urged doctors of both private and government hospitals to treat COVID-19 patients as per medical requirements, but not as demanded by the patients.
The cumulative cases stood at 3.51 lakh while 1,555 patients were cured, taking the total recoveries to 3,12,563.
The state has 37,037 active cases and over 1.29 lakh samples were tested on Friday.
Cumulatively, over 1.17 crore samples have been tested.
The samples tested per million population was over 3.15 lakh, the bulletin said.
The case fatality rate in the state was 0.51 per cent, while it was 1.2 per cent at the national level.
The recovery rate in Telangana was 88.94 per cent, while it was 86.6 per cent in the country.
According to another release, over 25.91 lakh people in the state have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine while over 3.60 lakh got their second shot also as of April 17. PTI GDK ROH ROH
