Temporary ban on social media websites in Pakistan

The access to social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, WhatsApp and Instagram was temporarily blocked from 11 am to 3 pm in Pakistan, on 15th April 2021. It looks like some kind of an emergency measure that has been put in place by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and is certainly not an outrage from the service provider’s end. The immediate reason for the suspension is not clear. It can be seen that just 24 hours prior to this brief restriction on social media in Pakistan, The United States of America announced that they will be pulling out troops from Afghanistan and there were various crucial meetings that were going on. Regardless of whether the ban is because of this reason or because of any other dynamic security changes that are coming in Pakistan, but certainly unregulated public broadcast through social media have been barred.
