Telangana reports 2,478 new COVID-19 cases, five deaths push

toll to 1,746 Hyderabad, Apr 9 (PTI) Telangana reported 2,478 fresh COVID-19 cases, the highest single day spike this year, pushing the tally to over 3.21 lakh, while the toll rose to 1,746 with five more fatalities, the state government said on Friday.

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) accounted for the most number of cases with 402, followed by Medchal Malkajgiri (208) and Nizamabad (176), it said in a bulletin, providing details as of 8 PM on April 8.

The total number of cases stood at 3,21,182 while with 363 patients being cured, the total recoveries were at 3,03,964.

The state has 15,472 active cases and 1,01,986 samples were tested on Thursday.

This is the first time that the state conducted over one lakh COVID-19 tests in a single day.

Cumulatively, over 1.07 crore samples have been tested.

The samples tested per million population was over 2.89 lakh, the bulletin said.

The case fatality rate in the state was 0.54 per cent, while it was 1.3 per cent at the national level.

The recovery rate in Telangana was 94.63 per cent, while it was 91.2 per cent in the country.

According to a separate release, nearly 15 lakh people in the state have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine while over 2.83 lakh got their second shot also as of April 8.PTI GDK SS PTI PTI
