Telangana posts 7,754 new COVID-19 cases, 51 deaths

(Eds: adds more details on beds, oxygen and vaccine) Hyderabad, May 1 (PTI) Telangana's coronavirus tally on Saturday crossed 4.35 lakh as 7,754 fresh cases were recorded while the death toll stood at 2,312 with 51 more casualties during the day.

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) accounted for the most number of cases with 1,507 followed by Medchal Malkajgiri 630 and Rangareddy 544, a bulletin said while providing details as of 8 PM on April 30.

The total number of cumulative cases in the State stood at 4,43,360 and with 6,542 patients being cured, the total recoveries were 3,62,160.

There were 78,888 active cases and nearly 78,000 samples were tested on Friday.

Cumulatively, over 1.29 crore samples have been tested.

The samples tested per lakh population was over 3.48 lakh, the bulletin said.

The case fatality rate in the State was 0.52 per cent while it was 1.1 per cent at the national-level. The recovery rate was 81.68 per cent while it was 81.8 per cent in the country.

The State has 216 active micro containment zones.

A separate official release said oxygen supply would be created for an additional 10,000 beds in government hospitals taking the total to 20,000.

'In September last, there were 18,232 beds in the government and private sectors. This has been increased to 49,133 beds. Special efforts are on to further increase the number to 60,000 beds,' the release said.

Arrangements are being made available for further five lakh free medical kits in addition to the existing stock of 7.5 lakh for patients in home isolation and other symptomatic persons.

Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar wrote a letter to the Centre for more vaccines as the State was allotted only 4.4 lakh doses for May 2021 against a population of 1.72 crore people in the 18-44 years age group.

Somesh Kumar also sought 600 tonnes of oxygen to the State against the present allocation of 430 tonnes per day.
