Hyderabad, Feb 8 (PTI): A case was registered against Telangana BJP unit president and Karimnagar MPBandiSanjay Kumar, party MLA M Raghunandan Rao and others in connection with violence in Suryapet district, even as six people were also arrested on Monday, police said.
BJP's Suryapet district president Bhagya Reddy was among the six, who were arrested, a police official said.
Three police personnel were injured on Sunday in stone pelting allegedly by BJP workers after a meeting organised by it support of tribals land issue turned violent, police said.
Tension prevailed after some BJP activists damaged a shed on a disputed land of 120 acres at Gurrambodu village prompting the police to lathicharge to disperse them.
Police registered two cases in connection with the incident including one against Sanjay Kumar, Raghunandan Rao and others under various IPC sections for allegedly violating conditions over conduct of the meeting besides abetting the offence (violence by BJP activists) and assaulting police personnel causing injuries, a senior police official told PTI.
They were also booked on other charges of unlawful assembly, conducting the meeting after permitted time in a disputed land, entering into a private land, obstructing traffic among others, the official said.
Alleging that the tribals land was encroached, the Telangana BJP's ST Morcha had organised a meeting 'Girijana Bharosa Yatra' in which Sanjay Kumar and other senior party leaders participated.
The dispute pertains to 120 acres in the area.
The tribals claim rights over it saying it was allotted to them while another stakeholder had set up a shed of a private company on the land staking claim. PTI VVK BN ADMINISTRATOR BN ADMINISTRATOR
