New Delhi: The Centre has done away with the âlal battiâ culture, but the VVIP attitude and mindset still seems to exist in pockets of the political class.
In the latest such case, a TDP MPâs son was arrested on Monday evening after being caught on CCTV camera vandalising a toll booth at the Bagepalli Toll Plaza at the Andhra-Karnataka border. The reason â he was stopped and asked to pay the toll fee.
Hindupur MP Nimmala Kristappaâs son, Ambarish, was asked to pay a toll fee of Rs 80, but he refused, arguing that he had a âMember of Parliamentâ sticker on his vehicle. The sticker, he claimed, exempted him from paying toll charges.
When the toll plaza employee told him he had to pay like everyone else, the MPâs son and those with him allegedly went on a rampage and broke the glass windows and computers at the toll booth. They even manhandled the employees.
Ambarish, however, denied it was him in the video. âI am not the person shown at the toll plaza. I was very far from that place,â he said.
The officials filed a complaint following which the police registered a case and arrested Ambarish.
