Tata H5X SUV Now Called Harrier, Early 2019 Launch Expected

One of the most anticipated upcoming SUVs from TATA, the H5X has been given its production name - the Harrier - in the run-up to its commercial launch. The name follows the company's policy to codename upcoming models after birds. However, the name Tata Harrier is going to be its market name itself for this next generation SUV, that is likely to be launched in January 2019.

Toyota already has a mid-size SUV by the name Harrier in its global portfolio, which is available in Japan and Malaysia.

The Tata Harrier is expected to go on sale in India in the first half of 2019. Tata is also said to be beefing up its sales network by planning to give its dealerships a premium touch (like Maruti Nexa dealerships).

The Harrier will be based on the OMEGA ARC architecture, which is derived from the Land Rover Discovery Sport’s platform.

Announcing the name, Mayank Pareek, the President of Tata’s Passenger Vehicle Business Unit said, “With Turnaround 2.0 into play, we are geared to win sustainably in the market. We are proudly speeding towards our next market introduction, the Tata Harrier, yet another game changer, to offer our customers a product, that is not only exciting, but that which will take our brand value to the next level.”

"With legendary pedigree running through its veins, ‘Tata Harrier’ promises to shatter all current benchmarks and pave entirely new standards for SUVs in India." - Mayank Pareek, President of Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors.

The H5X was first seen at this year's Auto Expo and grabbed eyeballs due to its unique design. The 5 seater monocoque SUV is engineered on the new generation ‘Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced’ Architecture.
