Tamil Nadu records 671 new COVID-19 cases, five deaths

Chennai, Mar 10 (PTI) Tamil Nadu's upward graph vis-a-vis new daily coronavirus cases and active numbers continued on Wednesday, with the state recording 671 new infections while five people succumbed to COVID-19.

The new cases pushed the overall infections to 8,56,917, even as the recoveries at 532 were lesser than the new infections.

After hovering over 500 for the past few days, the daily additions crossed the 600-mark today, while the active cases stood at 4,207, up from the 4,073 on Tuesday.

So far, 8,40,180 people have been cured of the disease.

Chennai topped the state with 275 new infections, followed by Coimbatore (63) and Chengalpattu, which saw 53 fresh cases.

Thiruvallur and Kancheepuram reported 39 and 34 new cases, respectively, according to a government bulletin.

All the five people who succumbed to the virus suffered from pre-existing comorbidities.

On Wednesday, 64,905 people were tested using the RT-PCR method. PTI SA BN BN
