A government school in Erode district is facing protest from a Hindu group after a school teacher allegedly asked students to remove Rakhi threads and religious threads tied on their hands.
The members of the Hindu Munnani conducted a protest over the move.
The incident took place in Gowndampaddi Government Boys School where a PT teacher made boys remove the sacred threads from their hand.
Enraged by the incident more than 50 people from the Hindu Munnani reached the school to conduct a protest and demanded action against the teacher who made the students remove the thread.
Hindu Munnani leader in the district, Murugasen said, Action needs to be taken against this teacher. There is no rule that one shouldn't follow their religion. This has hurt the religious sentiments of those students who had to remove the holy threads from their hands. We will continue to protest until necessary action is taken against the teacher.
The police who reached the spot have taken the protesters into custody.
Only a few months back, a circular from the Tamil Nadu Department Of Education asking students to wear caste bands had gone viral. After public outrage over the bands, the education department had reversed the order.
However, some outfits took offence to this saying that the circular bans wearing of bands by students thereby interfering with their religious beliefs.
