The Narendra Modi government has announced the list of top ten cleanest cities under the Swachh Bharat Mission. Here's the list of top ten cleanest cities in India.
The Swachh Survekshan 2017 was conducted in 434 cities across India and saw participation from 37 lakh citizens. "The Swachh Survekshan 2017 is the largest survey conducted by government," said M Venkaiah Naidu, Union Minister for Urban Development, Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, Information and Broadcasting.
Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) had launched Swachh Survekshan to foster a healthy competition between cities for improving cleanliness standard. The cities were judged on the basis of cleanliness and other aspects of urban sanitation. In 2016, 73 cities had taken part in the survey.
According to the official Swacch Survekshan website, the performance evaluation was conducted by Quality Council of India (QCI).

This year, the survey assessed over 12,000 locations and visited and assessed over 2,500 community and public toilets in the different cities.
The survey was carried put in three parts. In the first round which was of 900 marks, the MoUD judged cities on the basis of data provided by municipal bodies.
In the second round, the MoUD judged cities based on direct observations and independent assessment and marked the cities out of 500. In the last round, the MoUD collected feedback from citizens before ranking cities on the basis of waste collection, sweeping, transportation, processing and disposing methods.
Meanwhile, Faridabad in Haryana has emerged as the 'Fastest Mover Big City' at the national level. Also, Tirupati was ranked the 'Cleanest Medium City' while Ambikapur and Chattisgarh bagged this honour in Small Cities category.
