Suspended Goa swimming coach, accused of rape, gets bail

Panaji, Nov 22 (PTI) A Goa court on Friday grantedbail to suspended swimming coach Surajit Ganguly accused ofraping a minor girl in September this year.

Ganguly, employed at the time with Goa SwimmingAssociation, was accused of rape by a 15-year-old girltraining under him.

The girl's father had filed a case in Rishra policestation in Hooghly district of West Bengal, after which thecase was transferred to Mapusa in Goa where the complainantsaid the incident happened.

Ganguly was arrested in New Delhi in September and waspresently in judicial custody.

Goa Children's Court President Vijaya Ambre on Fridaygranted Ganguly bail, and directed him to cooperate in theprobe.

Mapusa police filed a charge sheet in the case earlierthis month, after which Ganguly moved the children's court forbail last week.

Ganguly is accused of rape under relevant sections ofthe Indian Penal Code, the Protection of Children from SexualOffences (POCSO) Act and the Goa Children's Act. PTI COR RPSBNM BNM
