New Delhi, Apr 26 (PTI) A suspected burglar, who was injured in a shootout with a police party, died despite the efforts of the policemen to save him by donating blood.
His two accomplices have also been arrested, the police said.
The Delhi Police spotted Nitin alias Sonu (24) and Hari Om when they were allegedly attempting to a carry out a burglary in the Prashant Vihar area of Rohini early yesterday.
The police said Sonu opened fire at the police party and in retaliation, they fired at him. Om managed to flee but Sonu fell when he was hit by five bullets.
He had suffered injuries on his leg, lower back and arms.
Sonu was taken to a hospital where four policemen of the Prashant Vihar police station donated blood to save his life but he died last night, DCP (Rohini) Rishi Pal said.
Doctors at the hospital said that he required four units of blood which were provided by the four policemen, including the SHO of Prashant Vihar SS Rathee and constable Ashok, who took part in the shootout.
Pal said that the policemen told him that while firing at the suspect was a part of their duty, donating blood was a “humanitarian duty”.
During investigation, it was found that while Sonu and Om had gone inside to commit burglary, Kuldeep stayed outside to keep vigil.
Kuldeep had escaped quietly when police were on Sonu and Om’s trail. Om had escaped on a police motorcycle that has been recovered.
Kuldeep and Om were arrested today.
Om has been previously involved in robberies and snatchings and is currently pursuing a diploma in engineering.
Kuldeep is a motor mechanic.
