Supreme Court puts stubble burning issue on hold; Centre to create a permanent body

Centre to constitute a permanent body as Justice Lokur Commission has been put on hold for the stubble burning issue. The Supreme Court suspends its October 16 order that appointed a one-man panel of retired apex court judge Justice Madan B Lokur to monitor the steps taken by neighbouring states to prevent stubble burning in the agricultural fields of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi-NCR, which is also the reason of the capital's air pollution issue.

A bench headed by Chief Justice S A Bobde passed the order while considering the Centre’s stand that it is coming out with comprehensive legislation to deal with air pollution, including the aspect of stubble burning.
