New Delhi, April 28: Cricketer Gautam Gambhir known for his patriotic zeal on Thursday claimed that he will bear full expenses of the children of the 25 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel who were killed in an ambush by Naxals in Sukma, Chhattisgarh on Monday. Gambhir announced that he would bear the full expense through his Gautam Gambhir Foundation. As per reports, the initial steps were already taken to facilitate this.
Gambhir was reportedly shaken by the massacre of the 25 CRPF Jawan in the Sukma ambush and was moved by the pictures of grieving daughters of the slain jawans. Gambhir who wrote in a column for Hindustan Times said that he was moved by the ‘gut-wrenching’ images of the daughters of two CRPF jawans killed in the ambush. He described the images and said in one one of them were saluting her martyred father, while in another picture on daughter was ‘howling’ and was consoled by her family.
He further wrote that his foundation will take care of the entire education expenses of the martyrs’ children. According to him, necessary steps are already been initiated in this regard. He also said he would share the progress they have made regarding this.
The Kolkata Knight Riders, Gambhir’s team for the Indian Premier League (IPL) wore black arm bands during their match on Wednesday as a mark of respect to the deceased CRPF men. He narrated how it was really difficult to focus on the game after the Chhattisgarh incident.
He also said cricket was similar to the armed forces and it is the spirit of team work in both that appealed to him. However, he clarified that the ‘quantum of losing a dear one’ while serving the nation cannot ever be compared to losing a cricket match.
