Berlin, March 3 (IANS) Bundesliga football club Vfb Stuttgart rescinded on Friday the contract of defender Kevin Grosskreutz after he was involved in a fight on Tuesday after leaving a nightclub and had to be treated in a hospital.
The club, in a press release, said it is pleased that Grosskreutz has not suffered serious injuries but came to the conclusion that it could not ignore what had happened, reports Efe.
"Players from the first team have a particular function as role models for the club as a whole, but above all for our young players," said the club's sports director, Jan Schindelmeiser, in the statement.
Grosskreutz acknowledged that he had made a mistake and accepted the consequences saying "I have made an error and I have apologised for that. I accept the consequences and regret that my time at VfB has ended this way."
The German international, whose best time as a player was in Borussia Dortmund, arrived at Stuttgart from Turkish side Galatasaray.
