There is a cloud of gloom all over as Sridevi has left us for the heavens. The news has come as a shock as the actress was hale and hearty with no history of serious illness. Just days back, we saw her looking resplendent at Mohit Marwah and Antara Motiwala’s marriage. That is the last image we have of her, a diva looking charming in a green lehenga with a dazzling smile with those beautifully kohled doe eyes spreading their magic. The lady has given us so many memorable films. Sridevi is a part of our childhood. We remember travelling to the nearest cinema halls to watch Chaalbaaz, Chandni, Lamhe and all those fab movies. One of her favorite films of the 90’s was Laadla. It was based on the Taming Of The Shrew. She played the role of an ambitious woman who heads her father’s firm with no interest in domesticity. She marries someone just to fulfill her ego. While the premise might not appeal to feminists, the film was a blockbuster and remade in other languages like Bengali. Incidentally, Sridevi died a day before Divya Bharti’s 44th birth anniversary. She was the original actress for the film but Sridevi replaced her after her shocking demise.
While Sridevi worked in the idustry for five decades, Divya’s career was much shorter. However, she had a phenomenal climb in the industry and was set to become a superstar. Divya was also a huge star in Telugu films with projects like Bobbili Raja, Assembly Rowdy and Alludu Rowdy. Both of them also married producer-directors.
