The Indian seamer Deepak Chahar who showed his all-around skills in the second ODI to win the game from nowhere has revealed Rahul Dravid’s message before going in to bat. India pulled off a stunner against Sri Lanka with the help of two medium-pacers, Deepak Chahar and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, surprisingly with the bat this time.
With almost 80 runs to get in 14 overs, India had just three wickets in hand, but Chahar and Bhuvneshwar were good enough to hold on and rotate the strike for few deliveries. Chahar in particular scored 69 off 82 deliveries and proved to be a big thorn for the Sri Lankan team as he kept scoring the odd boundaries and looked very comfortable on the crease to take a 2-0 series win already.
Deepak Chahar Delighted With His Performance
Deepak Chahar in the post-match conference stated that he was relieved with his performance for his country and revealed the coach Rahul Dravid’s message to play all the deliveries. He also noted about his previous batting exploits with India A and was convinced about the coach believing him to be the no.7. He hoped that the other batters perform better in the next few games.
“No better way to win the match for the country. Rahul sir told me to play all the balls. I’ve played a few innings with India A and I think he has belief in me. He told me he thinks I’m good enough to be a No. 7. He has belief in me. Hopefully, in the coming matches I don’t have to bat,” Deepak Chahar stated in the post-match conference
“This Is The Kind Of Innings I’ve Been Dreaming Of” – Deepak Chahar
Deepak Chahar revealed that the Sri Lanka team has posted a decent total to chase down on a wicket like that and mentioned this being a dream innings for a long time for him. He explained how he progressed ball by ball in the innings and had to take risks on occasions to keep up with the run rate.
“It was a decent score [to chase] on this wicket. Only one thing that was going on in my mind: this is the kind of innings I’ve been dreaming of. When we came under 50 is when I believed we can win. Before that, it was ball by ball. I took some risks after,” He added
Sri Lanka will now need to work a lot more on all the departments and they will need some solid performance in the third ODI to get back some confidence.
