Tata Altroz was launched in India recently and along with its debut, Tata launched the Tiago, Tigor and Nexon facelifts as well. While the Tiago and Tigor have missed out on a diesel engine in the transition the Tata Nexon facelift has seen a substantial price hike. That said, Ford has also launched the Ecosport with the necessary BSVI treatment. Also, last month Mahindra launched the BSVI compliant XUV300, however, the update is exclusive to the petrol variant. But before the set deadline, Mahindra is expected to launch the BSVI compliant XUV300 diesel.
Following is our spec comparo of the three Sub-compact SUV in the Indian market. Given the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza is expected in a new avatar at the Auto Expo 2020 with new petrol and diesel engines. We've decided to keep the Vitara Brezza out for this one!
All of the Sub-Compact SUVs in the comparo displace 1.5-litre out of which the Ecosport and the Nexon have a BSVI compliant state of tune. The diesel engine in the XUV300 is yet to meet the BSVI norms, which is most likely to happen by the 2020 Auto Expo.
While the Nexon and the XUV300 get an option of an automatic gearbox in the diesel variant, the Ford Ecosport misses out on it and offers an automatic transmission only in the petrol variant. Going by the standard manual transmission, the Nexon and the XUV300 get a six-speed manual gearbox, while the Ford Ecosport comes equipped with a five-speed manual transmission.
Power and torque figures
The XUV300 gets an upper hand here which the highest torque (300Nm) and power (115PS) figures. The Ford Ecosport the modest power (100PS) and torque (215Nm) figures in out comparo. And the Tata Nexon sits right in the middle with 110PS and 260Nm to offer.
Interestingly, the Nexon facelift is the most affordable car in our comparo as well as the most expensive as the prices range from Rs 8.45 lakh up to Rs 12.7 lakh ex-showroom. But the top-spec Mahindra XUV300 undercuts the Nexon facelift with a margin of Rs 1,000. However, that's expected to change once Mahindra launches the BSVI compliant diesel XUV300.
