South Actor Jai Arrested For Drunk Driving, Released On Bail
According to TNIE, South actor Jai, who shot to fame with Tamil film Goa, had been caught for drunk driving for the second time in three years by the Chennai police yesterday. However, the actor has been released on bail but the police have now decided to recommend to the transport department to cancel Jai’s license.
Reportedly, the actor was not carrying his driving license, vehicle insurance or RC book. According to reports, Jai rammed his car on the sidewall near Adyar flyover. The incident took place at around 2 am. Reportedly, the actor was returning from a film shoot, heading towards his Besant Nagar home.
In a statement to TNIE, an investigation officer, said, “As he drove up the Adyar flyover, and took a turn to the road leading to Thiruvanmiyur on LB Road, he rammed his car on the sidewall. Passersby, who noticed this, alerted the Adyar traffic police who rushed to the spot and found Jai.” The officer further added, “No one was injured, including the actor. Only the headlight of the vehicle was damaged.”
Ideally, in such cases, drunk drivers are registered under section 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) of the Indian Penal Code and remanded in judicial custody sometimes, but the section was not invoked in the actor’s case. However, Jai was reportedly booked under sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 185 (driving by a drunken person or by a person under the influence of drugs), 181 (not carrying driving licence) of the Indian Penal Code and 196 (driving an uninsured vehicle) of The Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
