Sonia Gandhi Clears the Air on Rahul’s Elevation in Congress

“You’ve asked for so long and now it’s finally happening,” current party president Sonia Gandhi told NDTV.

Addressing speculations about Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi’s elevation to the post of the party President, Sonia Gandhi said, “people will come to know when it happens.”

She was speaking ahead of Congress party’s meeting on Tuesday.

Making her first public appearance after a long illness, Congress party President had called a dinner meeting of all the party MPs and office bearers in the Parliament House on Tuesday, according to The Asian Age. Interestingly, the gathering happened just a day prior to the ending of the Budget session of the Parliament on Wednesday.

This is a part of the Congress party’s annual ritual wherein it hosts dinner for its MPs twice in a year. The event was attended by leaders such as Shashi Tharoor, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Manmohan Singh and Rahul Gandhi.

Sources have indicated that a leadership overhaul is slated post the Budget session, according to The Asian Age.
