Somalia: Suicide Bomber Strikes Main Police Academy in Mogadishu; 13 Dead
Mogadishu, Dec 14: A suicide bomber struck the main police academy in Somalia capital Mogadishu on Thursday. According to reports, several people are feared dead in the attack, with few reports claiming it to be around 13.
According to a Reuters report, the bomber was in police uniform and blew himself up inside the training camp. Police sources quoted in the report said the attacker infiltrated the General Kahiye Police Training Academy and struck during a police parade.
Speaking to Reuters, the director of Amin Ambulances said they carried 13 dead people and 15 others who were injured in the attack.
Soon after the attack, Islamist militant group, al Shabaad claimed responsibility for the attacks. This group is known for carrying out similar attacks frequently in Mogadishu and other areas of the state.
Al Shabaad have been fighting the United Nations-backed government and its African Union allies. They reportedly seek to overthrow the ruling government and impose its interpretation of Islam.
