Smith: Maroons star Slater will be okay for Origin decider

Smith: Maroons star Slater will be okay for Origin decider
Cameron Smith has backed full-back Billy Slater to take to the field at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane midweek.

Queensland captain Cameron Smith believes Maroons team-mate Billy Slater will recover from an ankle injury in time for Wednesday's State of Origin decider.

Melbourne Storm star Slater sent a scare through the Maroons camp when he went down in pain during Sunday's training session.

Slater returned for Origin II, which the Maroons won to level the series against New South Wales last month, after he was controversially overlooked for the opener.

And Smith has backed the 34-year-old full-back to take to the field at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.

"He's all right. I saw him this morning and he was walking around," Smith said on Monday.

"He told me he's done a few hops on his foot. I think he will be right to play. I'm not a doctor but he looked pretty good to me. I think he will be a starter."

The Maroons are already without Johnathan Thurston and Darius Boyd for Origin III due to injuries.

Cameron Munster and Ben Hunt have been drafted in by Queensland head coach Kevin Walters as a result.

Meanwhile, the Blues have added Tom Trbojevic and Melbourne Storm's Dale Finucane to their squad.

"I'm really excited. I found out after the Parramatta game at about 11 o'clock [Saturday night] and came straight into camp," Finucane told NSWRL.com.au. "To know that I'm sort of thereabouts and in the squad fills me with confidence - and I really hope the boys go well and can win on Wednesday night.

"To be here is really exciting for me and something I'm really proud of."
