Gorakhpur (UP), Nov 16 (PTI) Six people were killed and four injured as the car in which they were travelling fell into a culvert in Uttar Pradesh’s Siddharthnagar district on Monday morning, police said.
The victims were going to Mairwa in Bihar for a 'mundan' ceremony when the accident took place near the district’s Dhoswa village. The deceased included two children.
Superintendent of Police Ram Abhilash Tripathi said Munil Kumar (30), a resident of Raxaul village under the Kapilavastu police station in the district, was driving the car.
He probably dozed off, leading to the accident, the SP said.
Tripathi said the victims were going for the “mundane” ceremony of Munil’s three-year-old son Himanshu, who was also killed in the accident.
The other deceased have been identified as Saraswati (67), Savitri (42), Kamlawati (35), Umesh (18) and Shivangi (8).
The injured were Munil, his son Shivanshu, wife Savitri and Gita.
Shivanshu and Savitri have been referred to Gorakhpur’s BRD Medical College and the rest are undergoing treatment at the district hospital in Siddharthnagar. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the deaths and directed officials to make adequate treatment available to the injured. PTI CORR NAV RDK RDK
