Shortages of medical drugs and equipment in the market: Centre decides to step in

With more than 3 lakh covid cases being reported every day, people are struggling and searching for beds in hospitals, when they find one they are gasping for breath due to shortage of oxygen. Remdesivir which a life-saving drug is also now disappearing from the market as the demand increases. This has prompted the centre to step in and control the supplies of Remdesivir in the country. The central government has now prohibited any supply of Remdesivir outside the regulated supply chains from the government of India’s side. The central government rationale is that this is the “moment of emergency” The states, on the other hand, are saying that quotas allocated to them are certainly not in proportion to their requirements and therefore this planning should have been done much earlier by the government.
