Two women, including a senior citizen, were brutally murdered in outer district's Mianwali, police said on Saturday.
The deceased, identified as Sashi Talwar, 62, and her 40-yearold unmarried daughter Nidhi Talwar, lived in their flat after Sashi's husband passed away a couple of years ago.
Her son, who lives abroad, has been informed.
According to deputy commissioner of police Seju P Kuruvilla, neighbours informed the police about the incident at 10 am.
During investigation, the officials found the bodies in the flat. Sashi had a big cut on her neck and Nidhi sustained grievous injuries on the head.
"Preliminary investigation revealed that the attacker had a friendly entry into the flat as cash and ornaments are intact in the safe. This indicates that the modus operandi was murder and not robbery," said Kuruvilla.
The attacker or attackers have used a sharp weapon and a blunt object to kill Sashi and Nidhi respectively.
"However, police are yet reach to a conclusion about the number of attackers involved in double murder but it has appeared that they were known to the victims. We have searched CCTV cameras in the vicinity to identify suspicious persons. We want to know the actual motive of attacker," the DCP said.
An investigating official said this is a blind double-murder case with hardly any clue in initial stage.
The officials are scanning the victims' call details records and trying to ascertain persons who were in regular touch with them. After shortlisting the phone numbers, police officials will establish their locations to get possible leads.
