Sena workers damage dumper during anti-metro protest; 3 held

Mumbai, Nov 18 (PTI) Shiv Sena workers staged ademonstration against the ongoing work of the Metro-3 projectand damaged a contractor's vehicle here on Monday, policesaid.

Three Sena workers were arrested on rioting and othercharges during the demonstration held at Thakurdwar in SouthMumbai to protest inconvenience caused to members of thepublic due to the under-construction 33.5-km long corridor,they said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Pranay Ashok toldPTI, 'We have arrested three Sena workers under relevantsections of the IPC, including 146 (rioting), 336 (endangeringlife or personal safety of others) and 337 (causing hurt byact endangering life or personal safety of others).' Around 200 Shiv Sainiks accompanied by local residentsstaged the demonstration at Thakurdwar under the guidance ofthe party's Vibhag Pramukh (area head), Pandurang Sakpal.

The protest was organised by Shiv Sena's South Mumbaiwing against the inconvenience caused to local residents,schoolchildren, senior citizens and motorists due to the metrowork which has also caused cracks in some nearby structures.

The protesters shouted slogans against the MMRDA, thestate-run firm implementing the project, and private developerDB Realty.

They broke the glass of a dumper belonging to one ofthe metro contractors while it was parked outside the CharniRoad Station, the police said.

The Metro-3 line will connect Colaba in south Mumbaito SEEPZ in suburban Andheri. It will have 27 stations out ofwhich 26 will be underground. PTI ZARSY RSY
