Cancer survivor Gutierrez stars as Newcastle beat drop

As if staying in the Premier League was not emotional enough for Newcastle United, there was the added fairytale of cancer survivor Jonas Gutierrez scoring his first goal of the season. Gutierrez -- who was undergoing treatment for testicular cancer in the early months of the campaign and only returned to the squad in March -- netted the second goal in a 2-0 home win against West Ham United. Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira has accused the La Liga club of freezing him out by dropping him from the team after talks on a contract extension broke down even though he was fit to play. Germany international Khedira, who joined Real from VfB Stuttgart in 2010, will leave Real for free at the end of the season, with Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool, as well as Juventus, reportedly keen to sign him. Hull boss Bruce hoping for a favour in survival fight

Hull City manager Steve Bruce is desperate for a favour in the fight for Premier League survival but friend and West Ham United boss Sam Allardyce may not be the man to offer it in the final round of matches on Sunday. Hull are 18th with 34 points and not only have to beat Manchester United, having lost all their seven games against them in the Premier League, but must also hope 17th-placed Newcastle United fail to defeat West Ham. …

Los Angeles, June 16 (IANS) Singer Selena Gomez' paternal grandmother Mary Gomez is worried about her health following her recent diagnosis of Lupus - chronic condition, which causes the body's immune system to attack its own tissues and organs.

The 21-year-old, who sought treatment in rehab earlier this year for depression, was reportedly diagnosed with Lupus recently, and her family is urging her to take better care of herself, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

"I am very worried about her. I pray to god every day for her - and all the people in our church are praying for her to get better," said Mary.

"Selena is very stressed and concerned about her condition. I am, too. She is too busy. She needs to rest. We all want her to get this under control," she added.

Selena has yet to comment on speculation she is battling the chronic condition, but friends say she simply isn't ready to acknowledge it.

"She was so distraught and really freaked out when doctors told her there was no cure and she would have to live with it for the rest of her life. She's been on meds ever since," said a source.
