Haridwar, Aug 26 (PTI) A seers’ body here on Wednesday demanded that the country’s highest civilian award Bharat Ratna be conferred on the late VHP leader Ashok Singhal for his contribution to the Ram Janmabhoomi movement.
The Akhil Bharatiya Akhada Parishad made the demand through a resolution adopted at a meeting chaired by its president Narendra Giri Maharaj. The meeting was held to discuss preparations for the Haridwar Kumbh next year.
Recalling the contribution of Singhal to the Ram Janmabhoomi movement, the seers’ body said as a grand Ram temple is going to be built in Ayodhya, it will be appropriate to confer the award on the late VHP leader.
The organisation also passed a resolution demanding a CBI probe into the lynching of two Hindu seers in Palghar district of Maharashtra earlier this year.
They also expressed discontent at the slow pace of the preparations for the Haridwar Kumbh. PTI CORR ALM RDK RDK
