Security beefed up in Kasganj ahead of tiranga yatra plans for Independence Day
With preparations being made by various groups to take out a Tiranga Yatra on Independence day, Kasganj police has asked for additional force from the DGP headquarters.
Speaking to media persons, Superintendent of Police (SP) Kasganj Shivhari Meena said, "We have written to the DGP headquarters in Lucknow asking for 1 additional company of Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) and Rapid Action Force (RAF) each. Few groups have sought permission for taking out a Tiranga Yatra. We will not allow any unauthorised event apart from regular celebrations to happen on 15th August."
On January 26 this year, clashes broke out between two groups in Kasganj after 22-year-old Chandan Gupta died in clashes that broke out at Baddu Nagar during an unauthorised rally organised by youths affiliated with right wing groups to mark the 69th Republic Day.
Following the clashes curfew was imposed in the city. According to police, miscreants had torched two shops and a bus. Fire department personnel had also been sent to the scene.
The Uttar Pradesh Police had tweeted they made several arrests in connection with the clashes.
"A complaint has been filed at Kasganj police station and nine persons involved have been arrested so far. A special team has been constituted and we are trying to arrest others involved," the police had said.
