After receiving great success at the domestic market, Aamir Khan and Zaira Wasim starrer Secret Superstar continues its winning march at the Chinese box office. In fact, the musical drama is performing on the similar lines of Dangal, which is the highest Bollywood grosser in the Chinese market. In its opening weekend, Secret Superstar raked in staggering collections of Rs 173 crore ($27.08 million) and surpassed the lifetime business of Aamir Khan’s PK which had earned $19.5 million. Interestingly, the film had opened higher than Dangal on its first day at the Chinese box office.
By looking at the stupendous success of Secret Superstar it seems Aamir Khan knows how to attract the audience from the Chinese market. The similar but crucial element, which was present in both Dangal and Secret Superstar was the emotional and inspirational journey around women. The story of Secret Superstar revolves around a girl from a Muslim conservative family named Insia Malik, who dreams to become a popular singer. As per our observation, the content which is high on emotions and revolves around girl or woman strikes the chord with the Chinese audience at least that’s what these two films prove. With these huge figures, Secret Superstar has become the fourth highest overseas grosser of all time after Dangal, Baahubali 2 and PK.
