Second dose of Covishield to provide 81% shield against virus; delay in the same can be dangerous

With an acute shortage of vaccines in the country, several state governments have suspended their vaccination drive. There is an ongoing debate on the revised duration between the vaccines. The UK government has suggested that the time gap between the two doses should not be more than 6 weeks, as it can be ineffective, especially in the Indian mutant. The revised guidelines by the ICMR and the government of India have come multiple times. The two doses if provided at fixed time intervals will then only provide for an 80% shield.
