Temperatures across India have been soaring as extreme heat wave conditions engulf the country. Mercury is hovering well over the 40 degree Celsius-mark in Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, with Ganganagar in Rajasthan sizzling at 46 degrees.
Maharashtra, where the heat wave has already claimed 9 lives, was amongst the hottest regions in the country, with Vidarbha and Marathwada experiencing an intense spell of dry and blazing winds and temperatures over 45 degrees Celsius. These intense heat conditions are likely to remain till mid-June, at least, unless there is some intermittent respite due to rains.
