Come Diwali, just two kinds of crackers will be up for sale, as dictated by the Supreme Court, an NDTV report suggested on Tuesday, 22 October.
The green versions of the crackers ‘Anar’ and ‘Phuljhari‘, which happen to be silent are the only ones allowed, the report said.
"Only green crackers are allowed and we have constituted teams to check these sellers. If anyone is found selling any other type of crackers, legal action is being taken," the report quoted MS Randhawa, Delhi Police's spokesperson, as saying.
The report also said that the police has also directed people to check the official stamp, carrying a QR code, on the boxes of the crackers.
In 2016, the Supreme Court had banned the sale of firecrackers in the National Capital Region in response to a petition from three children.
In September 2017, the court had temporarily suspended the ban, advocating a “graded approach”. But a month later, the ban was back in place.
Man Arrested With Illegal Crackers
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, a man was arrested after more than 700 kilogram of banned fire crackers were seized from his shop in east Delhi, news agency PTI quoted the police, as saying.
Vijay Aggarwal (46), a resident of Radhey Shyam park in Geeta Colony owned a flour mill and had stocked the firecrackers inside his shop, police said.
He wanted to earn a quick buck by selling the illegal firecrackers ahead of Diwali, police said.
"Police received information about banned fire crackers being stocked and sold in a flour mill in Radhey Shyam Park, Jagatpuri. The team raided the premises where banned fire crackers were found in large quantity," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Amit Sharma said.
