The Bhartiya Janata Party spokesperson, Sambit Patra, who is known for his belligerence on television debates, has once again stirred the hornet's nest. Recently on air, Patra mocked the Congress president Rahul Gandhi as a 'TikTokiya', a reference to someone who makes cheesy videos on the 'TikTok' app, which has been recently banned by the Indian government.
"The biggest TikTok enthusiast is in their party. Look at his haircut. Now TikTok has been banned so the entire responsibility of entertaining people would fall upon him," he told his Congress counterpart, Rohan Gupta.

The Narendra Modi government recently banned 59 Chinese mobile applications, including TikTok, in the wake of a violent stand-off with China in Eastern Ladakh.
While a section of people hailed his decision, a lot of politicians in the Opposition weren’t pleased. While some claimed this would dishearten young, underprivileged people who had become celebrities and earned money through TikTok, others called it a 'cosmetic' decision not enough to avenge the death of Indian armymen at the border.
