RT-PCR is gold standard, but detects 70% COVID infections: MD Dr Lal PathLabs

New Delhi, May 15 (ANI): Director of Dr Lal PathLabs, Doctor Arvind Lal on May 15 assured that RT-PCR test is gold-standard test the world, but it will detect 70% infections because of variable factors. He also added that the best time to take COVID-19 test is after day or two symptoms sets in. “Best time (to take COVID-19 test) is after one or two days after symptoms like fever, loss of smell, taste, breathing issues, or diarrhea set in. Though this (RT-PCR test) is gold-standard test in the world, it will detect only 70% cases of infection. The person who collected swab, level of infectivity of the person, transportation conditions (of swab) and manner in which RT-PCR test was done -- all these can affect the correctness of the test result. But most of our labs have come out with flying colours,” said Dr Lal.
