Rs 1,400 Crore Unaccounted Income Unearthed During I-T Raids on Jaya TV
Chennai, Nov 13: An unaccounted income of over Rs 1,400 crore has been unearthed during raids on VK Sasikala’s family members and premises of Jaya TV in Chennai, Income Tax officials said on Monday. Earlier on Sunday, officials said that the I-T raids are over and the recording of statements and questioning is remaining. Notably, the searches at some premises continued for days.
The searches were conducted in connection with unexplained routing of cash post-demonetisation through shell companies allegedly connected to Sasikala and her nephew TTV Dhinakaran.
Income Tax sleuths on November 9 raided the premises of Tamil television channel Jaya TV in Chennai and a farm house of deposed AIADMK leader TTV Dhinakaran in neighbouring Puducherry as part of multiple searches over suspected tax evasion. Searches were also carried out in the premises of some others linked to Dhinakaran and his jailed aunt VK Sasikala.
The allegation covers aspects like shell companies, dubious investments, fund flow and fudging of accounts, an I-T official had said earlier. The searches at the TV channel’s accounts section is part of ‘Operation Clean Money’, he added.

The raid on 187 locations was conducted by over 1,000 officials. Subsequently, the number of officials carrying out the task shrunk with the conclusion of the searches at some premises.
Dubbing the searches a “conspiracy”, deposed AIADMK deputy General Secretary TTV Dhinakaran has alleged it was to oust him and his jailed aunt from politics.
The places raided included the residence of M. Natarajan, Sasikala’s husband, in Thanjavur; Kodanad Tea Estate belonging to late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa; Jazz Cinemas, Midas Distilleries, Sharada Paper and Boards, Senthil Group of Companies, Nilgiri Furniture in Coimbatore, Jaya TV, Namadhu MGR and several other premises in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Hyderabad and Bengaluru.
