Role of startups gaining centrality in Kerala's health care:Minister Kochi, Nov 10 (PTI) The role of startups is gainingcentrality in Keralas health care where machines and softwareare proving to be breakthroughs in checking diseases such ascancer, state Health and Social Welfare Minister K K Shailajasaid here on Sunday.

Hailing the key moto of 'CanQuer', the 3rd annualsymposium hosted by Cochin Cancer Research Centre and KeralaStartup Mission (KSUM) here, Shailaja said the government wasopen to suggestions that emerge at the three-day eventconcluding on Sunday.

The minister stressed the need for early cancerdetection and ensuring its access to the poor.

The governments Aardram Mission has been a step towardsmaking healthcare people-friendly, and the practice of makingpublic health centres (PHCs) function as family health centreshas been a decisive step in this direction, she said.

Kerala has the healthy ratio of one PHC per panchayat,but the civic bodies have populations ranging between 18,000and 65,000.

So, panchayats with high head-counts need more than onePHC, she said, reiterating the need for such health centresto function as primary facilities of cancer detection.

CanQuer 2019 hosted 18 sessions on a wide range oftopics related to cancer care, with experts from the fields ofboth medicine and technology addressing and attending themsince Friday.

In a major step, CanQuer announced the formation of avirtual community of clinicians and industry under KSUMtowards fighting cancer.
