Not a single day goes in India when we are not shaken up to the core by new sexual assault cases reported from different parts of the country. Nirbhaya rape case in 2012 was a watershed moment, but did it really curb the sexual crimes against women. My answer is big fat NO. Everyone knows about rising rape cases in India, some blame victims while others dissect the causes. But is it bringing any change? Because if it did, we would not have another shocking gang-rape horror – Rewari gangrape case! Speaking about the increasing violence against women, 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medallist Indian wrestler, Babita Phogat suggests it is high time to focus on male – educate them, teach them and make them understand very clearly. The Haryana girl, in fact, says it is time to change ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Yojana’ slogan to ‘Beton Ko Padhao Aur Beton Ko Samjhao’ in this video. For 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao', our Daughters Must be Alive: Shabana Azmi.
Speaking to ANI about the increasing rape cases in the country, Indian star wrestler Babita Phogat, said that there should be a new slogan for men in the society, ‘Beton ko padhao aur beton ko samjhao’. The 28-year-old also met Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat said, “I could not meet Mohan Bhagwat in person otherwise I would have asked him to raise awareness against the crime, which people are committing against women. Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao se kuch nhi hoga. Slogan should be changed now. It should be ‘Beton ko padhao aur beton ko samjhao”. Rahul Gandhi Attacks Modi Government Over Rewari Rape Case, Says It Allows Rapist to Walk Free.
Babita who hails from Haryana where the gruesome gangrape took place in Rewari, further added how there is a need of education and stricter laws to stop the crime against women. She said boys it is the responsibility of parents to give their male child a good upbringing in terms of teaching them right moral values and respecting women. Babita was quite vocal about the government to stand up for women in the country and not just voice slogan ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’. It is important that stringent rules and laws are in place, criminals should be scared of their actions, severe punishments and justice is served on time, and only then such heinous crimes will end.
