Resignation of doctor nothing to do with Batcha's death: VK Subburaj

Chennai, Mar 21 (ANI): Commenting on the resignation of Dr. V Dekal, who conducted autopsy on the body of former Telecom Minister A Raja's aide Sadiq Batcha, Tamil Nadu Health Secretary, VK Subburaj, on Monday said the resignation has nothing to do with the case.

"Dr. Dekal had quit earlier, eyeing assembly polls. Dr. Dekal's resignation has nothing to do with Batcha's death," said Subburaj.

Meanwhile, Janata Party President and telecom scam petitioner Subramaniam Swamy, reacting on the mystery surrounding the incident demanded a proper probe into the incident.

"Something fishy about the incident must be investigated. Batcha is a hardbound criminal. He can definitely handle pressure. But he was under family pressure to turn approver. There is something fishy about the death. It has to be investigated," he said.

Dr. V Dekal, who heads the department of forensic sciences at the Madras Medical College, has denied that the resignation has anything to do with Batcha's death, and claiming that he stepped down to contest the Assembly elections as an independent candidate.

Dr. Dekal, whose father was a DMK member, earlier said he had put in his papers on March 3, over a fortnight before Batcha's suicide, to contest the Tamil Nadu assembly elections.

Batcha, 39, was found hanging at his Chennai residence last Thursday. He was declared 'brought dead' to Apollo Hospital, Chennai at 1.20 p.m.

According to Central Bureau of Investigation sleuths, he was closely connected to the 2G spectrum money trail,

Dr Dekal had said that asphyxiation was the cause of Batcha's death, but did not elaborate on the details. (ANI)
