Residents protest, write to district collector against liquor shops in residential areas

After a series of protests against the liquor shops, now the residents of Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore on Monday took to the streets voicing their agitation against the setting up of liquor shops in residential areas. Carrying placards and raising slogans, the residents of Udmelpettai Kaniyur warned that they will be forced to remove these outlets overnight if the administration doesn't pay heed to their demands. The protestors also filed a petition with the district collector and suggested that these shops be moved to government buildings such as taluk offices and ration card offices. Several protests and vandalism incidents have been reported ever since the Supreme Court ordered re-location of wine shops away from highways.
