On 19 May, India registered 4,529 deaths, the highest number ever in 24 hours, and 2.67 lakh fresh infections. With 4,529 deaths in a 24 hours, India has become the only country ever to report a record-high single-day figure. There has been a clear 1.27 lakh dip in the active cases in less than two weeks. But even when the cases have dropped, why is the death toll rising?
The country has reported more than 4,000 deaths for the 4th consecutive day. India has even surpassed the United States in recording the single-day death toll. A recent govt data revealed that only 2 percent of the entire Indian population has been struck by Covid-19 leaving the remaining 98 percent still vulnerable.
