The record 33-time La Liga champions finished third in the recently-concluded domestic season – reasonably low by their standards – and were knocked out of the Champions League quarter-finals by Ajax FC, prompting the club hierarchy to remove Santiago Solari and replace him with Zidane. Eden Hazard

The €100M man arrives from Chelsea after guiding the English Premier League side to their second Europa League title in six years. Eden Hazard has for long been a Madrid and Zinedine Zidane fan. He was set to join them last year until the Spanish club were hit by a transfer ban. But a year late wouldn’t be bad for both parties. He was on loan from Portuguese club Benfica where he was signed as a prodigious talent in 2015. Eder Militao

Another 21-year-old signing but this a centre-back. With Sergio Ramos showing signs of vulnerability at the Madrid defence after years of top-level performance, Madrid brought in Brazilian Eder Militao for €50m (Rs 3.49B) even before the summer transfer window had started. The Madrid club has also roped in Takefusa Kubo of Japan to play for their B team next season. The 18-year-old nicknamed “Japanese Messi” joined the La Liga giants from FC Tokyo for two million euros. He was earlier part of the Famed La Masia academy of club Barcelona but had to leave in 2015 after the Blaugrana were punished for breaking FIFA age guidelines When signing players.
