Ram Leela is like child porn, dangerous for country: Prakash Raj

Actor Prakash Raj has landed himself in a soup again. This time around, the outspoken actor who has expressed controversial political views in the last few years, is in trouble over an old video where he is seen equating Ram Leela with child pornography and for claiming that Ram Leela is like a drama and instils fear among the minorities.

“Bringing Ram, Lakshman and Sita in a helicopter, putting them down is not my culture. I do not want events like Ram Leela to happen in the country. Children of India shouldn’t watch or participate in Ram Leela. It instills fear among the minorities,” he said during a News18 event in February 2018.

When the anchor told him that millions of people celebrate Ram Leela with great enthusiasm and faith, he shot back, “Will you not ask if children watch child porn. Will you leave it? It is dangerous for society. This is appeasement.”

When asked that a majority of people differ with him and view Ram Leela as a part of their cultural heritage, he fumed, “I’m very clear in my views. My understanding is that going to a temple is our culture. In full public view, why are you doing naatak (referring to Ram Leela as a drama).”

Prakash Raj contested the 2019 Lok Sabha polls as an independent from Bangalore Central constituency and suffered a humiliating defeat by mustering just 28,000 votes.
