Rajkummar Rao Wins His First Award For Newton At Asia Pacific Screen Awards

The film won two awards - 'best actor' award and 'best screenplay' award at APSA.

With movies like Kai Po Che, City Lights, Newton, Rajkummar Rao has become one of the bankable actors in B-Town. His recent movie Newton, which released alongside Sanjay Dutt’s comeback film Bhoomi, not only has been a huge success at the box office but also was selected as India’s official entry to Oscars. After winning accolades worldwide, Rajkummar starrer Newton added another feather in its hat.

At the recently held Asia Pacific Screen Awards in Brisbane (on Thursday), the film won two awards – ‘best actor’ award and Best Screenplay award. While Rajkummar bagged the Best Actor award, Mayank Tewari and Amit V Masurkar won the award for best screenplay. Also, Manipuri movie Lady of the Lake, which is helmed by Haobam Paban Kumar, won a special mention.

Rajkummar shared a picture on his social media handle, where he is seen kissing the trophy, Rajkummar looks dapper in a black bandhgala. Excited actor took to his Twitter handle to share the happy news with his fans. He wrote, “Won the best actor award at the most prestigious APSA 2017. Thank you Maa. Thank you team ‘Newton’. The names of the winners were being updated on the event’s Twitter handle (APSA), which gave us a glimpse into Rajkummar’s acceptance speech. A post on the APSA Twitter page read, “Let’s keep doing this beautiful work, let’s keep making these wonderful stories. Here’s to cinema.” The actor also thanked his late mother for blessing Newton.



Meanwhile, director Hansal Mehta and actor Manoj Bajpayee congratulated the movie’s team. Filmmaker Hansal Mehta, who has worked with Rajkummar Rao multiple times, took to Twitter to congratulate the team. He wrote, “Congratulations my darling Rajkummar Rao and amazing talents Mayank Tewari, Amit Masurkar. A win at the APSA is a huge achievement and should make India super proud.” Manoj Bajpayee wrote, “Congratulations @RajkummarRao on winning @APScreenAwards best actor award,” on his social media handle.
