New Delhi, Apr 26: Rajiv Rai Bhatnagar, the 1993-batch IPS officer, has been appointed as the Director General of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). The post was vacant since January, after the incumbent CRPF DG K Durga Prasad retired. The appointment of Bhatnagar as the new CRPF DG was made barely two days after the naxal attack in Sukma which claimed the lives of 25 CRPF jawans.
Centre came under criticism following the deadly naxal attack, for not appointing the CRPF DG over the past three months. “This shows the level of seriousness of the government. CRPF is without a DG: the govt is clearly unconcerned about internal security, whether it be Kashmir or goons killing in the name of cow,” CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury. “Today’s tragedy also calls for political responsibility and public accountability. Will we see anyone own this failure?”
