IRCTC to Provide Cab Service to Passengers on Rail Connect App; Ties UP With Cab Aggregator Ola
New Delhi, Dec 6: Railway tickets booking through Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) may soon get cheaper as the government is trying to do away with MDR or merchant discount rates. The MDR charges are imposed by the banks on the merchant for providing them with the debit and credit card services and if reports are to be believed, the Railway Ministry is in talks with banks to resolve this issue of MDR.
Sources say that the Indian Railways may soon join hands with the State Bank of India (SBI) under which the bank will issue smart debit card on which MDR charges will not have to be paid while booking train ticket. This step may prove fruitful for both, the Railways and the SBI. On one hand, the Railways will encourage more people to book tickets online and on the other hand, the SBI will get a chance to boost its consumer base.
Further, the sources have claimed that in a bid to make mobility easier for the people, a new scheme is being finalised under which the SBI smart debit card can be used to book rail, air, bus tickets without any hassle. Moreover, the consumers will not have to pay any additional charges for reaping the benefit of the facility.
The new scheme will be introduced next year and the talks between the Railways and the SBI is on the final stage for the same, the sources said.
